Heat First, Bubbles After
Every group has the same argument about the temperature. The aircon at dinner, the heating in the car, the bedroom window, the shower someone has turned up until the mirror disappears. Half of you are forever freezing and half of you are forever boiling, and the thermostat has never once been won. You only fight about it with people you plan to keep. Some Like It Hot settles it the one way it can be settled: an infrared sauna session, your own chic Sydney city apartment, a bottle of bubbly at our rooftop bar and share plates at our waterfront bar. All weekend, the only thing anyone says about the temperature is "Perfect, don't touch it."
First stop is our infrared sauna, where your session is waiting, a few of you to a room, with a towel each and filtered water to hand. The talking slows right down in the warmth. It's the one room all weekend where the dial was settled before you walked in. There's a private shower to rinse off in afterwards, and then the very particular walk back out, pink-cheeked and extremely agreeable.
Then it's your own chic Sydney city apartment, where getting ready now runs on sauna time. Bags go down, the music goes on, the hair air-dries and the makeup comes out. Everyone is much calmer about the mirror than usual. Turns are taken, compliments are handed out freely and somehow you're all ready early. The apartment is yours until morning, so nothing about the evening has to be rushed.
Up at our rooftop bar your seats are reserved, and a bottle of bubbly for the group is poured as soon as you sit down. After all that heat, the first cold glass gets held against a few foreheads before anyone drinks from it. Settle in and let the catch-up find its pace while the city carries on below, doing whatever the city does.
The evening moves down to our waterfront bar, with a glass of bubbly each and share plates coming down the table, light and made for picking at while the talk carries on. Nothing arrives in a hurry and nothing leaves the table untouched. A discounted cocktail menu sits beside them, and the first order goes in before anyone has finished opening it. Your table is already waiting, so no one has to decide where to eat. It's a very good feeling.
From here the night can go either way: out into the city, or back to the apartment and straight into pyjamas. Either way you all end up in the same living room, with no one leaving first and no one riding home alone. Somewhere past midnight someone prices a home sauna out loud, and the group takes it very seriously. By morning the conversation is mostly about whether a flat could possibly fit one.
