The Group Chat Deserves A Date
Some things deserve to jump straight to the top of the priority list. A bottomless brunch with the girls, an afternoon bottle back at the apartment, dinner by the water and a VIP booth with your name on it? This is one of them. Fries Before Guys gives you an entire Melbourne weekend to eat, drink, catch up and dance, with your own Melbourne city apartment right in the middle of it all. Clear the calendar. The girls have plans.
First priority: brunch. Settle in at our vibrant spot for a bottomless brunch made for a proper catch-up with your favourite people. Order your favourites, raise the first glass and let everyone get through the important updates. One story becomes three, somebody remembers something they absolutely meant to tell everyone and suddenly the next round arrives. Convenient.
Then it’s back to your Melbourne city apartment for an afternoon with absolutely nowhere else you need to be just yet. Get the wine open, claim a spot on the couch and let the catch-up keep rolling. This is the part of a girls weekend where nobody is dressed for dinner yet, everyone is comfortable and the conversation somehow keeps finding entirely new directions to go in. There’s a night out ahead. For now, your favourite people and a bottle of wine are plenty.
Eventually, dinner outfits start appearing and the apartment shifts into getting-ready mode. Makeup bags spread out, music goes on and everyone gets involved in the usual important decisions. Which top? These shoes? Hair up or down? Somebody asks for an opinion and then does exactly what they were going to do anyway. A time-honoured tradition.
Then it’s off to our waterfront bar, where your reserved table is waiting with dinner. Settle in, let the food arrive and there they are: the fries that earned naming rights to the entire weekend. Crispy, golden and destined for the middle of the table, where ordering etiquette dictates they technically belong to everyone. Fries before guys. We don’t make the rules.
From there, head into a Melbourne laneway to our glam cocktail lounge, where your group skips the cover charge and your VIP booth is ready for the final priority of the night: dancing. Settle in, then let the dancefloor start stealing people away one song at a time. The booth becomes home base between favourite tracks, drink runs and someone announcing “THIS IS OUR SONG” about a song that has apparently belonged to the group since approximately three minutes ago.
Later, it’s back to the apartment with tired feet, several unfinished conversations and the very satisfying knowledge that tomorrow morning does not require everyone to head in different directions just yet. Shoes off, water all round and one final couch debrief before somebody finally admits defeat and heads to bed.
After years of bringing girls together, we’ve learnt that the best weekends aren’t always about the big moments. It’s the brunch that runs long, wine on the couch, fries passed around the table and everyone finding their way back to the same VIP booth. Life will always compete for the calendar.
