One Wine Night Was Never Going To Be Enough
Some catch-ups need more than a table booked for two hours. They need an entire day, three wineries and preferably nobody volunteering to be designated driver. Sip Me Baby One More Time takes the girls out to the Yarra Valley for a full day of tastings, good food and uninterrupted time together, before heading back to your own Melbourne city apartment and finishing the night over rooftop dinner. There’s a lot to get through. Luckily, you’ve cleared the weekend.
Settle in for the ride out to the Yarra Valley and let somebody else handle the driving while the group gets down to the important business of catching up. By the time you reach the first winery, at least three separate conversations are probably underway and somebody has already said, “Wait, I haven’t told you what happened.” Excellent. You have all day.
Across three winery stops, taste your way through different drops while the Yarra Valley does what it does best around you. Compare favourites, discover something you’d happily drink again and enjoy being able to linger with your favourite people instead of squeezing everything into the usual few hours. There’s time for the stories that need context, the updates that somehow never made it into the group chat and the subjects everyone thought had been exhausted but apparently still have several important points requiring discussion.
Somewhere amongst the tastings, everyone gathers around the table for lunch. Share plates land in the middle, everyone reaches in and the group gets one of those long, easy meals where breaking bread together is really just an excuse to keep talking. Stories get interrupted to pass a plate, glasses are raised and somebody inevitably orders everyone to try whatever she’s just discovered. Good food, good wine and your favourite people around the same table. There’s a reason this combination keeps working.
By the time you’re back in Melbourne, the day has already delivered, but the weekend isn’t remotely finished. Check into your city apartment, drop the bags and take your time getting ready together before heading out again. There’s no scramble to make the last train or figure out who’s going home when. Everyone’s staying, so the night gets to keep going.
Then it’s up to our rooftop bar, where your reserved space overlooks the city and dinner gives everyone plenty of reason to settle in for a while. Share plates make their way around the table as you keep working through whatever topics somehow survived an entire day in wine country. The Yarra Valley may be behind you, but nobody said the debrief had to end when the winery tour did.
When the night eventually winds down, there’s no splitting off into separate rides home. Head back to the apartment together, kick off the shoes and let the conversation continue for as long as it needs to. Maybe somebody opens one of the bottles bought earlier. Maybe everybody agrees it can wait for the next girls night. Either way, you’ve successfully turned one catch-up into an entire weekend.
We’ve planned enough girls weekends to know the conversation is never finished when you think it is. There’s the story that starts on the drive out, the wine everyone agrees is the winner and the rooftop dinner where somehow there’s still more to discuss. One wine night was never going to be enough. Good thing you booked the weekend.
