Light The Good One
The trick with a really good fragrance is how quickly it takes you somewhere. A familiar scent can put you straight back at a table full of friends, laughing over a story you had almost forgotten. Now imagine being able to make that scent yourselves. Candles and Catch Ups combines a private candle making workshop with a lovely Sydney evening of sparkling at our wine bar, rooftop dining and chic city apartment accommodation. Consider it a weekend with a rather wonderful souvenir built in.
At our private studio, your host guides you through making your own scented candle. There's something deeply satisfying about pouring one from scratch, especially when everyone has a different idea of what smells like heaven. The studio is BYO, so bring along your favourite drinks if you fancy. Between choosing fragrances and making your candles, the conversation gets going without anyone needing to make an occasion of it. Though of course, making your own candle is an occasion in itself.
After your workshop, head to your chic Sydney city apartment to settle in and get ready for the evening. Maybe someone has already decided her candle will live in the bedroom, while another is certain hers deserves pride of place in the lounge. It's a small thing to make, but it turns out everyone has quite strong plans for it.
Next stop, our wine bar. Your reserved seating and a bottle of bubbly for the group set the scene for a proper catch-up. Take a sip, compare notes from the studio and let the conversation go wherever it likes. Some people bring home a shopping bag from Sydney. You're bringing home something that actually has a story behind it.
Later, head to our rooftop bar for dinner, with bubbly on arrival and delicious share plates spread across your reserved table. It's a lovely change of setting, from a studio table where you made something with your hands to a rooftop table where all you need to do is pass the food and enjoy the views. There's time to linger and no pressure to turn the night into another activity.
Back home, the first time you light your candle might be on a special evening or simply because it's Tuesday and you fancy making it nicer. Either way, that fragrance has a little bit of Sydney tucked inside it. And that's a much better keepsake than something destined for a drawer.
