There are some stories that simply cannot be told properly in the group chat. Too much context, too many screenshots and at least three moments where somebody needs to interrupt with “WAIT, WHAT?” Spilling The Tea gives the girls the time and setting to get the full version, with your own Melbourne city apartment, high tea with cocktails served from teapots, dinner at our waterfront restaurant and rooftop bubbles to finish. The tea is being served either way. How piping it gets from there is entirely up to you.

First, actual tea. Settle into our opulent high tea lounge, where three-tiered stands arrive loaded with delicate sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and fresh fruit. Then come the cocktail teapots, which look perfectly respectable right up until you remember what’s actually inside them. Pour a round, work your way through the tiers and let somebody finally tell that story properly. No typing. No voice notes. No missing context. And if screenshots need to be produced as supporting evidence, this is a safe space.

Then it’s back to your Melbourne city apartment to get ready together. Drinks go in the fridge, makeup bags take over the bathroom and outfit opinions are requested, delivered and occasionally ignored. By now high tea has probably uncovered several stories requiring further discussion, so consider this less of an intermission and more of a change of venue.

Dinner is waiting at our waterfront restaurant, where your reserved table, bubbly and shared plates mean nobody has to interrupt a perfectly good conversation with menu negotiations or bill maths. Settle in, pass everything around and pick up exactly where you left off. One story leads to another, somebody remembers a crucial detail from three years ago and suddenly an entirely separate incident has been reopened for discussion. And if you need to beat a dead horse for the forty-seventh time? These are exactly the women to do it with. The group chat could never.

Then take the night up to our rooftop garden bar, where your reserved space overlooks Melbourne and sparkling is ready for the girls. There’s a discounted cocktail menu too, which feels like useful information at this stage of proceedings. Order another round, settle into the greenery and enjoy the luxury of having enough time together to actually finish every story you started.

Later, head back to the apartment for the inevitable final debrief. By now the screenshots have been examined, several historical events have been reconsidered in light of new evidence and at least one person has said, “How did I not know this?” Nobody promised the tea would stop spilling just because the heels have come off.

We’ve been bringing girls together long enough to know the high tea might be on the itinerary, but the conversation is the main event. The cocktail poured from a teapot, the screenshot that changes the entire story, dinner that opens three more and the rooftop round where nobody is remotely ready to call it. High tea is lovely. High tea with the people who already know all the context? Now we’re talking.
